MORNING AFTER
WINTER --

last winter storm
       sparkles in downy,
pregnant doe bounds
       glitter from gamma
       confetti from blackbrush and althorn,
redtail wheels,
sky from white to blue breezes,
        loam turns darker moistening,
ledgemelt water
       below cliffcave crawls
       under gravel sand,
blackwalnut, catclaw, mesquite trees groan
       as ice bark crinks,
rabbits twizzle whiskers,
sparrows fluffle wings.

such trouble stirs
many springs.
