THE STRANGER

what you see may be
       a modern day disciple
in search of the neglected.
May be a pilgrim of our wondering,
wounded age, its perversions and interventions.

Oh, miserable freedom of delicate flesh,
that makes sullen youth talk of lights celestial!
To cross such a one in thought or deed,
can be dangerous -- though they be sublimely harmless,
Useless even.
