At Dawn

September introduced ears in swiftness
to chomping, munching, apples at dawn
For one split second our eyes met
Moon-sized, softened eyes so kind
   gazed long

In awe and stillness, I watched on
Crispness of breath from steaming nostrils
Prancing, pawing, gnawing at the ground
   the beauty

So intentional was she…in majesty to linger on
And stood regal and staid by fawn
…to be in seconds gone
   this miracle at dawn
