Earth Father | Poem

dear earth father
who art now in heaven
a dirt farmer
at the hour of my birth
in a world
i was made to feel wrath
rather than protection and love
lead me now
into the hour of your love
for mother
and all seven children
born of this union
in the Great Depression
born into ancestral
and religious fears
now my guardian angel
reunited after empty years
now with my earth mother
the very one
you loved so desperately
you threatened
to throw yourself
in front of the train
she prepared to board
if she did not become your wife
ironic some thirty years later
another train
would end your earthly life
this moment finally i know
both your love and protection
