INTO PERSPECTIVE

Lying awake in bed in the night
that's the vulnerable time
thoughts of inadequacy
          and inevitable disintegration
as molecules return to randomness
I can hear entropy taking place
and the energy required to keep lans and hopes
          in place wanes
debts, obligations, needs of others,
pain caused by my own inaction
responsibilities beyond my store of energy

But I get up
and pull on my pants
and build a fire
and sit at my desk
and open the window shade to let Dawn in
and prepare my little list
of real-life tasks and possibilities for this day
and got started
and it falls into perspective
and Life seems good and sweet again
and I wonder what I was afraid of...
