THE PARAMOUR

        Basking in the silkened sunlight,
She stroked the cat, and meditated upon
the improbability of toil.

In consideration of yesterday, the changes
she would propose – are few.
His provisional credulity disturbs her.
She hopes her listening will untrouble him,
that he will make steadier progress toward the boundary
of her aspirations, without further expanding
the frontier of her reputation.

Flat on the back of her linen moroseness -
the tail of the cat she did tug.
