Apaches Didn't Have Helicopters | Poem

Apaches Didn't Have Helicopters

   Apaches didn't have helicopters
   Life to them was sacred
Tommy hawks were used to gather food
   not the souls of men

   Collateral damage
   was something that happened
to your sheep herd, or check book
   not to human beings

   Warthogs were in the Trilogy
dark minions of the evil lord
sent to gobble up and subjugate
   all the light and love
   within the world

   Mothers don't make bombs
   they make eggs
   which give birth
   to future generations

   Silkworms made thread
which is woven into gossamer cloth
   soft and sensual
   to the touch

  Hughie was something I called
  my younger brother
  when he was young
  and sweet
  and innocent
