Bread Not Bombs: Message to George Bush | Poem

14 September 2001

today at the memorial i saw  your little sad boy's eyes
the pout of your mouth holding back tears
heard the laughter lightened hearts when you said,
"I can hear you!"
hear now all those angels flying
circling perhaps, this the homeland
of democracy,
Christians, Muslim, Jews, Pagans,
all watching
waiting
turning the other cheek does not work
an eye for an eye does not work
this is more than a national emergency
it is global
a house divided does not stand
nor a nation
now a planet
what will we choose
