NAVAJO CODE TALKERS

by Jodey Bateman

Diné bizaad

the language of the people

they used to help those

who had forbidden them to speak it

in their schools,

whose verb forms

are as intricate as the patterns

on the rugs the women wove

intricate as the wiring in electronic devices

like radios

the Code Talkers spoke on...

(editor's note: the Navajos call themselves the Diné)
