The Horse Opera | Poem

by Daisy Sidewinder

The Horse Opera

Why can't I
sing your song?

I saw you
the other night
on your spirit horse
heading south
back straight
eyes on
Some Mystery
baggage scattered
behind you
scraps for me
to pick up
and remember.

Why can't I
offer you something?
A smoke, a coffee
a steak
a day-old danish?

You're so far away
I can't sense you.
Maybe you were
a pulp western
fantasy cowboy
boots on dancing
hooves.

I know all this
but I won't let go
of the Drama.
Perhaps it
was always just
The Drama.
