       The Mimbres were a tribe
of Indians in New Mexico who
flourished around 1000 AD.
Little is known of the Mimbres,
and they appeared to have vanished completely around 1150. The simple beauty of their designs has lived on in
the animals and geometric designs of
of these Native Americans.
Some of the scenes tell stories; depicting insects, birds, rodents, fish,
and large animals of the region. Some scholars believe that all designs
contain symbols that had meaning for
the Mimbres people. Many believe
that the central theme of all Mimbres painted designs is about the contrast
and balancing of opposing forces.
