ROSES WITHOUT GLASSES
Bracing myself with the outer
half-pad of my left foot
sitting on right wanting
to write tears
my cyber window turns from
green to pastel rose
how did you do that?
Computing by candle light
I remove the window blind
One star, no it must be Jupiter,
the city lights
Dim all other stars out of
sight
Spanish words I do not
understand feel pink
They will turn blue before
the music ends
I understand
I’m only stealing a kiss
Pretending I am flower you
are bee
Pretending I am writing better
sonnets than the Portuguese
Did I let go to fast? Return
too soon?
Do you understand I was not
holding on?
I am your little sister,
your grandmother
All the turquoise eyed ladies
that said no
Of course my rose window
of necessity will turn black
Only an instant before the
power is gone
The music will only pause
between this world and the other
Where is the boy looking
for the girl who’s looking back?
How did we lose color time
and glasses?
