Eliseuson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen alligators,<br \/>\nAnd I have seen a water moccasin,<br \/>\nFloating in the canal like a long black stick,<br \/>\nWith a sharp bend on one end.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen the sun rise,<br \/>\nAnd set,<br \/>\nAnd rise again,<br \/>\nBut it does neither of those,<br \/>\nThe earth just turns,<br \/>\nAnd turns,<br \/>\nAnd turns.<\/p>\n<p>Of myself,<br \/>\nI have seen little,<br \/>\nFor the months have emptied me,<br \/>\nAnd filled me up again,<br \/>\nWith fireflies and turtles,<br \/>\nHawks and deer and otters.<\/p>\n<p>I have been emptied and filled,<br \/>\nAnd I am the canal waters,<br \/>\nDeep and still,<br \/>\nGreen and rippled,<br \/>\nOr flat calm as a mirror,<br \/>\nReflecttingly,<br \/>\nCalmingly,<br \/>\nEven beseechingly.<\/p>\n<p>Indian Rudy,<br \/>\nTeaches me without teaching,<br \/>\nRich teaches me without trying,<br \/>\nRob teaches me by saying nothing,<br \/>\nJust shakes my hand over and over,<br \/>\nAnd stares away at things I cannot see.<\/p>\n<p>I am the new one,<br \/>\nIn this old land,<br \/>\nPalmed and vined,<br \/>\nPined and prickled,<br \/>\nMade strong by sand,<br \/>\nMade slow by basking turtles,<br \/>\nMade grateful by cool breezes,<br \/>\nOn blazing hot sopping days.<\/p>\n<p>Made well by constant simple fare,<br \/>\nMostly vegetables and fruits,<br \/>\nBread and water,<br \/>\nThe staples of camp life,<br \/>\nI leave sadly in a fortnight,<br \/>\nGladly knowing I will return,<br \/>\nAgain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>.
