{"id":576,"date":"2007-03-01T09:25:18","date_gmt":"2007-03-01T13:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/motherbird.com\/wordpress\/?p=576"},"modified":"2007-03-01T09:25:18","modified_gmt":"2007-03-01T13:25:18","slug":"why-did-we-go-to-iraq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/motherbird.com\/wordpress\/why-did-we-go-to-iraq\/","title":{"rendered":"Why did we go to Iraq?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We did not go to drink their oil<br \/>\n(we already dood that)<br \/>\nWe could not spread democracy<br \/>\n(we already knew that)<br \/>\nWe did not have an exit plan<br \/>\n(we do not plan to exit)<\/p>\n<p>736 US military bases in 140 countries<br \/>\nCome on good ol&#8217; white boys we&#8217;re almost<br \/>\n there&#8230;over there&#8230;(all is never enough)<br \/>\nall 50 states get military dollars<br \/>\neither military bases or weapons manufacturing<br \/>\nwith 100 Senators who follow orders to get the $&#8217;s<br \/>\nthat buy the votes to to insure the contracts<br \/>\nthat keep the people&#8217;s knees locked.<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t need military bases? &#8220;Oh, yes,<br \/>\nit is our major income, can&#8217;t be closed!&#8221;<br \/>\nHow do you test new weapons systems?<br \/>\nEvoke a war.<\/p>\n<p>Bush&#8217;s way to negotiate with Iran<br \/>\non giving up their nuclear arms program:<br \/>\n&#8220;We won&#8217;t negotiate about nuclear weapons<br \/>\nuntil they give up their nuclear weapons program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Timothy Garton Ash:<br \/>\n&#8220;Marx thought capitalism would have a problem<br \/>\nfinding consumers for the goods that improving<br \/>\ntechniques of production enable it to churn out.<br \/>\nInstead, it has become expert in a new branch<br \/>\nof manufacturing: the manufacturing of desires.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s that core logic of ever-expanding desires<br \/>\nthat is unsustainable on a global scale. But<br \/>\nare we prepared to abandon it?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We may be happy to insulate our lofts,<br \/>\nrecycle our newspapers and bicycle to work,<br \/>\nbut are we ready to settle for less so others<br \/>\ncan have more?
