What is a teacher to do when faced
\nwith whatever number of students
\nwho have been boxed into garbage in
\ngarbage out and lost the ability
\nto think for themselves?<\/p>\n
When one train
\nbounces off another train
\nit’s time to seek a third track.<\/p>\n
Was it the ’30, 40’s and\/or ’50’s when
\nchildren were taught to be seen
\nand not heard?<\/p>\n
How severe was the home of the student
\nthat would fear to speak up in class,
\nespecially higher education classes?
\nWho learns not to speak their mind for fear
\nof ridicule when
\nthe purpose of higher education
\nit to learn something new and test something old
\nthat is perceived as set in stone?<\/p>\n
For sure, not all teachers are like the very best
\nteacher I found in higher education, for he,
\nSteve Beiner, was a self proclaimed gad-fly,
\nin English 101, who would take either side
\nin any classroom debate, believing,
\nwhere one places there commas was minor
\ncompared to encouraging students to think
\nfor themselves, and the bonus
\nwas never to back down from a position
