{"id":636,"date":"2007-05-14T12:32:11","date_gmt":"2007-05-14T16:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/motherbird.com\/wordpress\/?p=636"},"modified":"2007-05-14T12:32:11","modified_gmt":"2007-05-14T16:32:11","slug":"the-whole-world-is-awaiting-georges-departure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/motherbird.com\/wordpress\/the-whole-world-is-awaiting-georges-departure\/","title":{"rendered":"the whole world is awaiting George&#8217;s departure&#8230;&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>by David Michael Jackson<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll remember the arrogance of power<br \/>\nI cannot find one reason to kill<br \/>\na million Vietnamese<br \/>\nand 49,000 of my generation.<br \/>\nI cannot find a reason for that wall in Washington<br \/>\nI cannot find a single domino after all these years.<br \/>\nwe argue that chaos will surely come if we leave.<br \/>\nand what is our definition of chaos,<br \/>\nlittle water and electricity<br \/>\nfear<br \/>\nbombs in the street,<br \/>\nin the market<br \/>\ndeath squads<br \/>\nsmart bombs with collateral damage,<br \/>\ninvaders kicking doors<br \/>\nkicking doors.<br \/>\nWe must not cut and run.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m not,<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll stay right here<br \/>\nbeside my comfortable<br \/>\nsymbolic fire,<br \/>\nno sir<br \/>\nnot gonna cut and run,<br \/>\nnot me.<br \/>\nMy sarcasm overcomes me<br \/>\nI throw myself across the room.<br \/>\nI hit the wall.<br \/>\nI throw ol&#8217; T.S. against the other wall.<br \/>\nHe who had his wife arrested in a restaurant,<br \/>\nhad her committed,<br \/>\nwent to Harvard<br \/>\nnever visited.<br \/>\nThis is the man we say<br \/>\nset our pace.<br \/>\nWe<br \/>\naccepted his wasteland.<br \/>\nDo I dare to eat an apple?<br \/>\nCast him off<br \/>\nlet him drift away<br \/>\non the ripples of<br \/>\na new poetry<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by David Michael Jackson I&#8217;ll remember the arrogance of power I cannot find one reason to kill a million Vietnamese and 49,000 of my generation.
