\nnow gone, dead and gone
\nall victims of suburbia
\nand one bully boy
\nbut poor Hesse’s dog
\nnow free to roam
\nwithout a name
\nhome alone
\nnone of his neighbors know his name
\nso lonesome he yet howls
\n“Hesse won’t you please come home?”
\nHe howls not for food
\nthe neighbors throw him scraps
\nHe howls not for water
\nwater crashes from the sky
\nIt is a mournful howl
\nhis family all up and gone away
\nand no one knows his name.
\nWhere the shame of holy stains?
\nWhere the politics of life?
\nDecember rains heavily upon my roof
\n“Dog, are you sheltered,
\nperhaps under a tired old car?
