DREAM AMERICA
I want a people who can't tell
a poem from a hammer, a people who sand boards
and nail them up on joists of logic. I want
a people who whistle the fugues of bottles in bins
and recycle Schubert's airs to mix
with the gas that fries their eggs. Then
we'll have it right. Then we'll
have democracy: one man, one
song, one woman, one rock,
one wrench, one star,
one child, one bird, one vote.
