THE WALL OF THE DEEP

The silence of the sea
Is broken by the sand rolling
On the seabed floor

Darkenss broken
By pillars of light
Coming through the waters

Out of the darkness
Out of the silence
Without a word
Without a whisper
A great beast comes

Out of darkness
Into light it breaks the pillars made of light

It rises up
And blocks out the light
Changing day into night

Its huge tail
Flutters in its wake
As it runs
Forever hunted
Never hunter

The sun disappears again
Stolen by a metal fish
Up there in the sky

Surrounded by water
The whale is drowning
From lack of air
It must go up there
And take its share

The whale rises up
And parts the veil
And sees a storm
Off in the distance
Dark
And foreboding

There is a sound
There is thunder
Then light

Silence
Darkness
And then nothing

On the ship of death
A man looks down
And he wonders
Is his life worth the whale's
He looks down into the sea
And he doubts

The silence of the sea
Is broken by the sand rolling
On the seabed floor
No more.
