Cerillos Homecoming | Poem

Cerillos Homecoming

by Phil Coyote

Livin' in the city is troublin' my mind--
Tried to get ahead, but I've fallen behind--
Gonna pack up the pickup and I know where I'll go--
Back to Cerillos, New Mexico--

Back to Cerillos, New Mexico--
Where the livin' is simple and the pace is slow--
Where there's clean air to breathe and some room to grow--
Back in Cerillos New Mexico--

I've got a sweetheart there, a wild Spanish rose--
Pretty as sunset from her head to her toes--
She's waitin' there for me and everyone knows--
Back in Cerillos, new Mexico--

Back in Cerillos, New Mexico--
Where my true love is waitin' for me to show--
Where I'll be romancing when the lights are low--
Back in Cerillos, New Mexico--

There's an adobe there that I can get cheap--
I'll make my bed there and never lack sleep--
The sound of the river there will soothe my soul--
Back in Cerillos, New Mexico--

Back in Cerillos New Mexico--
Where the livin' is simple and the pace is slow--
Where there's clean air to breathe and some room to grow--
Back in Cerillos, New Mexico--
