this painted bird

(it’s real paint)

wends and wanders

through excuses

glass envelopes

rationalization

seldom soaring

tetany tired muscles

stretched taut

across the hollow bones

ragged edges

of primary feathers

pushing against

inexorable gravity

wind messages

guiding magnetism

forgotten

in the effort
